Occasionally, the Lord will remind me how short life is, how serious it is, and how quickly it can end.  On the way home from Bible study tonight, I had such a realization.  It dawned on me that at any moment, we could get into a head-on collision and all lose our lives.  Or, for some reason, I suddenly could stop breathing, or my heart could just stop beating.  Then I started thinking of my life, what I had done, and the way I had lived.  Would I be able to say that I had lived a good life?  That I had accomplished much good?  And, most importantly, would I be able to say that I glorified God in everything that I did?  Would I be able to honestly say that I hadn't wasted my life?  Unfortunately, sitting there in the car, I could answer none of these questions with a "yes."  Any moment my life could end, and I wasn't ready for it.  There is nothing more sobering than the thought that you might die without having made a difference in the world.  I'm not trying to make anyone depressed or anything, but I think it's important that we keep in mind that this could be our last day, our last hour, or even our last moment.  So, instead of, like most people, ignoring death because it's scary, I've chosen to be different and always remind myself to live like I'm dying.

  1. Wow- That is exactly how I feel, Jenah! Those are the same thoughts I often have...
Yes! Let us live like we are moribund any second!

  2. thanks Jenah, really good thoughts there....and while I don't really like to think i'm dying or anything! (who does!!?) i totally agree that we should always try to make the most out of our lives--and as my Sunday school teacher likes 2 say, "Smiles are contagious!" :)

  3. Thanks for putting things in my life in perspective, Jen. As I think you know, one of my favorite secular songs is "If Today was your Last Day" by Nickelback. "My best friend gave me the best advice
He said each day’s a gift and not a given right
Leave no stone unturned, leave your fears behind
And try to take the path less traveled by"
Reminds you that life isn't so long as we think it is and that we only have one chance to live our lives well.
    See you soon!

  4. Wow, thank you!
I tend to think about this a lot, and honestly, it's a little hard not to get depressed. But you know what? You can't do everything there is to do, but you can do SOMETHING! (Pastor Randy says that a lot...) Once you find out what you can do, do it with all your might. :) Don't worry about what tomorrow will bring (because you might not make it till tomorrow) live in the here and now.
@Myra: Thanks for what you shared, too! (That's one of the Nickelback songs I actually like, LOL!)
Anyway Jenah, I totally agree with you!! :) Thanks for the reminder! :)

  5. This is a very good thing to keep in mind. Recently the Lord reminded me of this, too, when I almost hit a deer one night. Just remember that the only thing that really matters in life is knowing God. It will last forever!
